His sixth album shows Würzburg musician Markus Rill easily achieving the
high level of quality that the best of his American colleagues in the
roots and Americana genre are striving for. This singer-songwriter creates
vivid songs in which he conveys personally experienced suffering like his
mother's death as convincingly as he narrates tantalizing stories in a
smoky voice.
Most of the songs are slow to midtempo. Country, Bluegrass, Folk and Rock
come together in an enticing amalgam - and the music breathes authenticity
thanks to having been recorded in Nashville, TN. Markus Rill's name stands for
(mostly acoustic) handmade, honest and credible songs that get under the
listener's skin. It's no wonder that Rill's been invited to Austin's SXSW
music festival this year.
