Hiya guys,
I'm sorry I'm late again. It's been a busy time since the last newsletter.
April was a real good month with a whole bunch of very nice shows.
I got a short-notice opportunity to open two shows for Dire Straits co-founder David Knopfler. Had a great time meeting David and his band and hanging out with them. I also went over very well in Aschaffenburg and Karlsruhe. Made some nice connections and got some good media response for those shows.
Supported by the fabulous Robert Hasleder on mandolin and dobro, I opened a show for David Olney and Sergio Webb in Regensburg. Needless to say that Olney is one of the great songwriters of his generation. He has written some tunes that are as good as anything by Guy Clark or Townes van Zandt.
David & Sergio were very complimentary of our set. I even heard back from their booker how much they liked my music. That's always pleasant to hear.
Piano wizard Andi Obieglo and I also played a fun show in Ochsenfurt introducing a bunch of new songs into the set and I just got back from a fine solo show in Amsterdam.
Next week, on May 29, The Gunslingers and I will be rocking Dresden's
Societätstheater. I don't get to play a whole lot of shows in East Germany so I hope lots of people will come out.
Two days later, May 31, I'll be playing a solo show in Hamburg at the
King Calavera club in St. Pauli. From what I hear this is a very cool venue and it should be a fun gig.
I'm happy to report that the new album "The Things That Count" will once again be released by
Blue Rose Records. We're currently working on the graphic design and discussing a possible release date. I'll keep you in the loop. You can hear the album's title track
here
There's also lots of new stuff at this here site
Andi and I recorded a song by Michael Weston King for a compilation of Michael's tunes featuring lots of great artists. I posted our contribution "Fade Away" in the
sounds section.
Also updated the
gallery with pics from the Karlsruhe show and the
press section with a Q&A from a British website.
Check it out and stay in touch, folks.
Hope to see y'all at the upcoming shows,
Markus
